My #1 Question!

I've shared this before, but "What do I wear?" is the number one question I get asked before a session. It makes sense, it's an important part of session prep!

In case you missed them, you can check out my 3-part blog series on what to wear:

  1. What to Wear - Sexy
  2. What to Wear - Cozy
  3. What to Wear - Curvy

Besides the blog, I've put together 9 important outfit tips to share with you today that should hopefully make your session prep a little easier, and make you feel more confident and prepared coming into your session.

1. Size Matters

One of the most important and overlooked parts of preparing for your boudoir shoot is ensuring your bra and panty sets fit properly. Our bodies are constantly changing, and it's impossible to keep our wardrobes up to date. That's why for the sake of the session, I recommend you buy a few new outfits or utilize my client closet and wear a size up whenever possible.

This will give you a bit more room to stretch, feel comfortable and confident without feeling tight or constricted. Wearing a size up, as long as it still fits, will also create less indents on your skin which is really helpful for me during the editing process.

I've had several women come to their session and thank me for this pre-session tip, because it came in handy and had them feeling much more confident in themselves and their outfits!

Be sure to bring padded and non-padded bra options, because each style is more flattering for certain poses.

2. Bodysuits

One of the best things you can find: a bodysuit that is high-waisted, or Brazilian cut. This will elongate your legs by inches and really accentuate your hips. Most thong bodysuits are high-waisted, so try those on and see!

Fear not: razor burn can be edited out.

Bodysuits that show some side-boob action are always a hit with the girls too. I recommend this SHEIN bodysuit, which is part of my client closet in size Small. It's really flattering on both the front and back of the body. (You can see it in the middle photo directly above this text, and the first photo at the top.)

3. Sweaters

I always recommend you bring at least one cozy, oversized sweater. Bonus points if it's a crop swear and/or off the shoulder! These sweaters are so sweet and sexy when paired with panties and thigh high socks.

You don't want the sweater to be TOO big or bulky, because this will hide your curves. Think 1-2 sizes up or your regular size in a boyfriend fit.

Lighter sweaters allow for more movement and have you feeling comfortable and free.

Button-up shirts and tight crop sweaters also work great to bring a cozy element to your gallery!

4. Crop Tops

Crop tops are fun, sexy, and give you space to show off your curves!

This won't be everyone's forte, but a crop top showing some under-boob is always a good time.

Loose or tight fitting crop tops both look great - so bring both along with you!

5. Robes

One of my favourite accessories to use during every shoot: robes!

We have lacy, silky, and tulle robes that all compliment every outfit perfectly. Let it hang off your shoulder, wrap yourself up in your arms covered in white lace, or use it to rock some implied nudity. The options are endless!

6. Nudity

Okay, hear me out. Once we approach the end of your session (or sooner if you're feeling it), it's a really good idea to try and conquer some nudie shots. Why? Because what better way to remember and honour your body as it once was, all those years in the future?

You're going to want to remember how beautiful you looked & felt in your youth. If this is something you're interested in, I encourage you to try it! Implied nudity is a fun way of exploring this while still feeling covered and concealed.

These will likely end up being your favourites, too!

7. High Heels

A lot of my clients tell me they aren’t comfortable walking in heels. I’m not going to make you walk in them, so no worries! But we will pose in them.

The main criteria for heels for boudoir photography is to be sure they are 4-5 inches tall. Pumps are the best because they add a few extra inches to your legs when you stretch out and point your toes, and they make you feel beautiful. Check out my favourite style right here.

8. Accessories

Chokers, bracelets, rings, earrings, body chains - they all make incredible additions to your outfit that just compliment in all the right places.

Keep it simple and classy - really long or intricate earrings can distract from your face and we don't want that!

9. Other Tips

  • Wearing a sporty top/jersey? Spice it up with lacy panties
  • Fitted logo tees look better then big bulky jerseys, but we can make either work!
  • Spice up cozy outfits with thigh-high socks like these.
  • Corsets more often than not fit too tightly and aren't flattering, buy 1-2 sizes up for the best fit
  • Wearing nothing but waist-high fishnet tights is SUCH A VIBE... seriously you have to try it! (See below)

Conclusion

There are so many options for outfits. The more outfit options you bring to the session, the better. I can help mix and match during the session!
