Have you ever heard the phrase "Comparison is the killer of all joy"?
It's known for a reason.
I know the comparison game is inside of all of us, myself included…
You don’t feel as beautiful as your friends with the perfect bodies and snapchat filtered selfies
You don’t have any modelling experience and have no clue what to do in front of a camera
You wish you had anyone else’s body instead of your own
What you may not realize is that the person you wish you could be…probably wishes they could be someone else too.
I’m here to show you that you don’t need to be anyone else — and you really wouldn’t want to.
We are all unique. That's what makes us magical.
You are perfectly you.
You are unique
A gift to this world
You have a purpose
You are here for a reason
You deserve to be praised.
Celebrated.
Loved.
Taken care of.
Shown off.
Seen.
Heard.
Believe it or not (you probably won’t) nobody sees our flaws the way we do
When we look in the mirror or see a selfie — our eyes instantly go to our perceived imperfections and emphasize them more than we realize. We can't see any beauty or magic because all we see is the things our Inner Critic tell us to see.
When we look at our loved ones or see a selfie of them — we smile, we feel warm, we feel happy, we see beauty and strength. We see the magic.
So, where’s the disconnect?
Newsflash: It's us.
It’s our lens that is tinted
It’s our view of ourselves that is corrupted by a lifetime of “never good enough” media, impossible beauty standards and the fitness, health and beauty industries constantly reminding us that we need fixing.
Have you ever looked at yourself with an Instagram or Snapchat filter on, and then took it off only to be horrified?
This is creating a false sense of self within us, and making it impossible for us to feel beautiful in our own skin. (So, we constantly buy into the very industries that made us feel this way, creating a very profitable business based off of our recurring insecurities)
Through a Luxury Barrie Boudoir Photography experience, what I want to challenge you with is this:
Go to the mirror. Especially if the idea of that just made you cringe.
Look at yourself in the mirror, I mean really look
Make eye contact
Brush your fingers through your hair
Look at your rosy cheeks that warm up when you feel excited, your lips that speak your truth, your eyes that sparkle different than anyone else's
Smile, and tell yourself you are beautiful
Do you know how incredible this will make you feel on the inside?
You may not notice immediately, but you will
Show yourself some compassion, grace, love, space to be unapologetically you
Have faith that you are more beautiful than you could ever comprehend. Yes. YOU.
Take a deep breath
A leap into faith
Show up and be brave
The rest will follow, I promise
You deserve to celebrate yourself.
